Realtek HD universal driver is an open-source audio utility designed to provide support for legacy audio devices that are no longer supported by their respective OEMs. Find the latest version of this tool for Windows and Linux here.
Realtek Semiconductor Corp, a leading manufacturer of microchips, specializes in various computer hardware and applications. Among their product lines, their integrated PC audio solutions are highly recognized, with a significant market share. However, as technology advances, older hardware becomes obsolete and loses support from OEMs.
That being said, Realtek UAD Driver addresses this issue by providing driver support for legacy audio devices, allowing outdated hardware to function properly, especially those without special audio enhancements.
In order to get your hands on the latest update, simply scroll to the bottom of this page and complete a Captcha. Once you complete it successfully, press the Download button. When the file is downloaded, locate it (usually in the Downloads folder).
The package you will have downloaded includes a universal audio driver for various Realtek audio devices found on desktop PCs and laptops. This software is compatible with the following operating system versions: Windows XP and newer (including Windows 11), and Linux (any kernel before 3.18).
Windows users will find a single executable file inside the Windows zipped file. Simply double-click it to start the setup. If, for any reason, this doesn’t seem to trigger the setup, there is an additional instruction file next to it that offers help.
Similarly, Linux users will find a .tar file that they need to extract first. Once extracted, open the Linux Terminal (Alt + Ctrl + T). The first step is finding the location and typing the directory into the terminal to open the file, for example, cd /home/username/Desktop/file-name (just switch the username and the destination folder).
Now, run the Install command by typing xdg-open INSTALL (in case there is a txt file by that name. Sometimes the file is also tilted ReadMe). The only step left is to run the installation by typing ./configure
make
sudo make install into the terminal.
